Rising damp (or salt damp) occurs when salty ground moisture slowly rises up through the block/brickwork and mortar of a building by a capillary action. There are stages in rising damp and signs you should watch for and it's implications when left untreated. they are;
1. primary/early stage; this is when you notice the appearance of water tide marks and sometimes, bubbling paint on your walls between 0.30m to 0.40m above floor level.
2. partially secondary stage; this is when the effect has moved from bubbling of paint or peeling off of paint and partially flaking of plaster/render of walls.
3. secondary stage; this is when the plaster/render of walls moves from the flaking stage and begins to deteriorate.
*don't waste your money on damp proof paint *cladding the affected walls with tiles,stones and or terrazzo is not the solution.
the damp will rise again.
