_“Some Pharisees and teachers of religious law now arrived from Jerusalem to interview Jesus. "Why do your disciples disobey our age-old traditions?" they demanded. "They ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat." Jesus replied, "And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God? For instance, God says, 'Honor your father and mother,' and 'Anyone who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.' But you say, 'You don't need to honor your parents by caring for their needs if you give the money to God instead.' And so, by your own tradition, you nullify the direct commandment of God.”(Matthew 15:1-6, TL_

ESTEEM THE WORD OVER HUMAN PRACTICES

The Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus with a problem they had with the disciples of Jesus. They accused the disciples of not observing their tradition of hand-washing. Can you imagine?

These leaders of the law were not following Jesus because of the mighty things He was doing but they came around Him to find fault. They expected Jesus to rather follow them, and actually make friends with them. They were so full of themselves.

Their traditions were so important to them than the commandments of God. They needed Jesus to please them and to make them happy. Some friends of yours are in your life to spy on your liberty in Christ. It is better to please God than to please man. They are interested in you following their traditions rather than the commandments of God. There are many who will come to question your faith. Their presence in your life is like an interview of challenge. Their position sometimes are very convincing. But my dear, will you listen to God or man.

Jesus responded by pointing to them that they had actually replaced the commandments of God with their traditions. God had given a clear command to them to honour their parents.

They rather said it was acceptable for people to neglect their parents, if they gave the money they would have used to take care of their parents to God. Their tradition sounded spiritual, but it was in direct disobedience to God’s word.

Don't be moved because of their positions in your life or how they have been helping you all these days. There's a clear difference between God's Word and the traditions of men. My dear, stick to God's Word. There are many practices that are direct disobedience to God's Word. The reason why your prayers seems not to work may be because of certain traditions of men or your family. Watch out!

I refuse anything that seeks to nullify the direct commandment of God in my life. I choose to obey God rather than men in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
